Corey “CoCo Brother” Condrey (Mixing Hip Hop with Christ???)

As you all know, I just moved back to Atlanta, GA and now, after my hiatus there is a gospel station on the FM side of the radio (All Glory Goes to God . . . 102.5 Atlanta’s Inspiration Station). Well, there is a radio DJ by the name of Corey “CoCo Brother” Condrey. I kept telling myself that I needed to look this brother up on the Internet and do some extensive research to find out his background and more so motives for having a show called The Spirit Of Hip Hop. Now, before I go bashing I just want to point some things out. I don’t know this brother but I’d like to get to know him. I really want to know exactly what he feels his mission is when it comes to the body of Christ. However, I do have some observations concerning mixing hip hop and church.

2 Corinthians 6:17says “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.” We all know no matter what race that you are that the hip hop culture glorifies SATAN. Its lyrics, clothing and lifestyle is not conducive to Christian living. Now, my dear CoCo brother, when you “DJ for Jesus” are you telling your listeners to come out from a lifestyle of sin and shame or are you turning a blind eye by attempting to win sinners to Christ by letting them know that its still ok to participate to an extent in their hip hop culture? Please explain…..

2 Corinthians 6:14says “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” Coco Brother, you interview both saints and known sinners….in other words Non Christians. Are you witnessing to Ludacris, 50 Cent, Kanye West and Young Jeezy? Are you telling them that they need to stop writing and performing lyrics that are damaging to the soul and to glorify God in heaven with there talents????? Please explain…..

John 3:5  says “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. ” Yet you CoCo brother claim you witnessed 7,000 people get saved after a concert. Did any of these souls get baptised in Jesus Name and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues? NO, NOT ONE! Its almost like a Billy Graham Hip Hop Convention, repeat these words and now your saved! Coco Brother, you cant show me anywhere in scripture that anyone was saved this way.

With all that being said, I not only have one raised eyebrow, I am raising BOTH of my eyebrows to your mixture of hip hop with Christianity. You are sending a mixed message to people. You know, what angers me the most is that you have such a talent and a great vision however your vision has been tainted by the mixture of a non christian culture attempting to mix it with the Pure Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ. I see nothing wrong with wanting to reach a generation that is consumed with BET and MTV and win their souls to Jesus however in order for any of these people you DJ to (which numbers in the millions) to get saved, they must be taught that the wages of sin is DEATH and the Gift of God is Eternal Life through Christ our Lord and that once you are truly saved, you can no longer follow the culture of THIS WORLD but now you must follow the Culture of Christ.

On a more positive note, I am proud that you have quit drinking alcohol. I am Elated that you have vowed to be celibate until you get married. I thank God that you are no longer homeless. God is doing a great thing in your life. I see and recognize that. Is the hand of God upon you? YES, by all means, I see the hand of God on you wanting to take you to higher heights and deeper depths……………….however you must yeild to what THUS SAITH THE LORD and the Bible requires complete Holiness. Remember Hebrews 12:14says “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” . If you nor your hip hop listeners are not living HOLY, you WILL NOT SEE JESUS! That’s the bottom line. Hip Hop and Holiness is an oxymoron, oil and water, they DON’T mix. I’ll be praying for you that you take the next step in your Christian walk by forsaking the ways of the Hip Hop Culture and being completely sold out to Christ while still reaching those that perhaps may never hear the true saving Gospel of Jesus. Remember CoCo, holiness is not a denomination, its a LIFESTYLE!
