Pentecostal Perspective: Two Questions For Every Believer

   Acts 19:1-7

1And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

4Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

7And all the men were about twelve.

Today was an excellent Sunday at Atlanta West Pentecostal Church. To summarize, the title of today’s message was “Two Questions Everyone Should Ask”. Question one is: Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? Well, to answer that, in order to find out if one is Holy Ghost filled, we can turn to the Word of God. One is filled with the Holy Ghost as a requirement for salvation. The new testament church clearly taught that when one was filled with the Holy Ghost that they would speak in other tongues as the Spirit of God gave the utterance. Just believing in on the Lord Jesus is not enough. Why? Well, even demons believe and on Jesus and tremble. James 2:19 says Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. We know that demons are not saved, so its appartent that its more to this than just believing on Jesus Christ when it comes to salvation. Hebrews 11:6 says But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. That reward is the gift of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues

The next question that was asked was how were you baptised? 4Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. This is the first rebaptism recording in scripture. Why? Because baptism by immersion invoking the Name of Jesus Christ is the only method that was used in the New Testatament church. Not the titles Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

To sum it all up, Acts 2:38 is very clear about God’s plan of salvation wich we call the new birth experience. In order to know that you are saved (not just a good Christian, not just a nice person or eloquent person like Apollos was) you must be born of the Water and of the Spirit in order to inherit the kingdom of God. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Today, ask yourself those two questions. Question 1: Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?  Question 2: Unto what then were ye baptized? Then and only then will you be able to tell if YOU my dear brother and sister have TRUE SALVATION!
